Living a Healthy Lifestyle

“Yes, I do love the concept of a #Mamabear,
but let’s take it a bit further!”
– The Uphill Skater –

A mama bear is a caregiver. A mama bear nurtures and protects. A mama bear shares love in a unique way. Love is a shared event. I believe the whole concept of a giving and caring persona will encourage others to come together in ways that are not only loving, but also supportive. That kind of person leads by example, and is a role-model.

Concepts such as “come together”, “come closer” and “come into my warmth” are of such value that we should seek out those who share that value. We all know someone who makes us feel safe, which help us also feel confident and powerful. Being accepted and loved is vital, especially today when so many people feel adrift and lonely. That feeling of being what I call “uninvited” is devastating and creates doubt and fear. Knowing you are loved and valued for who you are not only nurtures, but also is the foundation for a positive self-worth.

Recently, I saw that a judge ended mask mandates in US air travel. The flight attendant on one plane interrupted his safety speech to inform everyone that masks were no longer required. The plane broke into cheers. About 80-percent of the travelers took off their masks and started to twirl them in the air in celebration. However, the remaining travelers were appalled. They kept their masks on and put their heads down. It was the same inside the airport. I am not a doctor nor a scientist, and I do not pretend to know who or what is correct, my point is that nobody else does either. You have to go with your inner mama bear—that feeling of knowing what is right for you both physically and emotionally. Unfortunately, that intuition can be hard to find, especially when we listen to others against what we know to be best for ourselves.

In this issue of PINK, you will read about women who gather others to themselves in ways that show love, concern and care. Protection is not an armed guard. It is not a high wall. Protection is that feeling of standing on solid ground—feeling valued and safe. It is a feeling of knowing who you are and what is right for you. So called facts are all around us. My take is to sift through and allow your inner mama bear to protect and guide you.

My husband and I were in Denali National Park in Alaska several years ago, and I saw a real mama bear and her two cubs from our tour bus. They came closer and people started to put their cameras and phones out the window to take pictures. This triggered the mother bear to maneuver herself between the people and her two cubs like a guardian—a very serious guardian. It was quite something to see, and I will never forget it.

Come near and come close. Gather for food, come together to generate energy. Come together to worship. Come together to support each other. The mama bear ideal is so touching. I wish more of us could live it. Could it start with you?
