Pink's Monthly Makeover

Meet Marie:
You may know her as the cashier at Kroger that wears a blue flower in her hair. With the nicest husband in the world, a son that lights up her life and a dog named Elvis, one would think Marie Cole has it made. However, as life has a way of doing, Marie has been thrown more than her fair share of curve balls lately. "This makeover couldn't come at a better time," Marie said. "It's been a rough year." While most would call it devastating, she's just "glad to be here to tell the story".

It all started in October 2009. Marie had just taken her son, Steven, who is mentally developed delayed, to tennis (he has won a gold medal in both singles and doubles in the Special Olympics!). On her way home, she noticed she was not feeling well. Describing her symptoms to a friend with a medical background, Marie was advised to go to the hospital immediately. Unexpected open heart bypass surgery was the answer to her symptoms. However, only 30 days after her surgery, her husband, George, suffered a heart attack too. A few months later, when they both felt all of this was behind them, George was informed he has a terminal illness that was caught too late to treat. With all of the heartache Marie has dealt with lately, one would expect her usual positive spirit to be shaken, but with a smile on her face, and her sense of humor firmly in tact, Marie was ready to escape for a few hours to soak in her day of pampering at Fringe, an Aveda Concept Salon located on Hilton Head Island.

The Cut & Color:

Consulting with Marie prior to her appointment, Jaime Braymiller, Senior Stylist, knew exactly what she wanted to accomplish with Marie's color and style. She began by adding Aveda highlights to Marie's self-described "dishwater-blonde" hair. "The highlights will brighten her complexion and help her blue eyes stand out," explained Jaime. To add depth to the hair and cover Marie's "pigment deficiency" (gray), Jaime added a darker blonde all-over Aveda color as well. The result was perfect, rich and lustrous. Mission accomplished. Marie's face came alive and her eyes blazed of blue.

The plan was to shorten Marie's hair in the back, removing some of the bulk and rounding the shape. To thin Marie's face, Jaime angled the hair down towards her cheekbones, finishing with luxurious layers to add volume and movement.

The Outfit:

Marie met up with Roxanne Gilleland at The Porcupine. Roxanne immediately noticed Marie's bright baby-blues and decided to choose an outfit to enhance them even more. With more than ten years experience at The Porcupine, Roxanne was amazing. and fun! She started by finding a great-fitting pair of pants. At only five-feet tall, Marie's stature was a factor in considering what styles would enhance her body and help her feel confident. Roxanne was right on it. In just a few tries, Marie had a beautiful outfit, complete with boots and earrings. It was one-stop-shopping at its best.

Marie's outfit details:
Slate grey pants by Vanilia, paisley long-sleeve mock turtleneck by Etro, slimming shimmer coat by LaFayette148, grey pleated "Fanta" bootie by Everybody and platinum silver earrings by Forest.

The Makeup:

It was back to Fringe Salon for the finishing touches of makeup. With Maggie Lucchesi, one of the three owners/partners of Fringe, and Elizabeth Greene, Guest Services, assisting, Jaime began by applying Aveda tinted moisturizer. Each step of the way the ladies taught Marie how to achieve the same results at home. Marie's transformation was remarkable. As the last of the lip glaze was applied, her eyes looked bigger and her complexion glowed brighter, but it was her smile that said it all and warmed our hearts.

Marie's makeup colors: Tinted moisturizer in Aspen, Mineral Dual Foundation in Aster, blush in Tessarae, eye shadow in the Plum Mist collection, lip color in Lychee Splash and lip glaze in Wineberry

It's a Wrap:
Marie had to stop by work on her way home. No one even recognized her without doing a double-take . and she's worked there nine years! Steven told his momma how pretty she looked, and wonderful George did not disappoint: "Marie, you are so beautiful!" We are all rooting for the Cole family and many happy, beautiful days together ahead.
