Pink's Monthly Makeover

The Lead Up:
On the day of her Pink makeover, a stunning green-eyed blonde strolled into Fifth Avenue salon. By all outward appearances, she wasn't the slightest bit nervous. "I'm always ready for a makeover," said Pamela Passananti. "If you don't try something new, you never know," she said. "I figure you can always change the color or let it grow, so why not do something different? You have to trust that the people who are doing it know what they are doing."

Looking for a change, Pamela wanted to make sure that her new look would complement her lifestyle. Although her nest is empty, she has a husband, a dog and a fulltime job to keep her busy. "I'm older now, too. I don't have a lot of time and I don't want to spend a lot of time. I've always been kind of a natural person, but I still want to look hot!" she said.

The Plan:

Hair color and cut by Ann Kerr of Fifth Avenue:

Donning her smock, Pamela was ready for a transformation. Hair stylist, Ann Kerr and salon owner/stylist, Dawn Lenahan evaluated her current look and came up with a strategy to bring out her best features.
"My initial feeling is that your hair is just too long. You're a pretty gal and you just need some punch," said Ann. "We also need to intensify your hair color."

Dawn agreed. "Right now, everything looks like the same shade which makes you look washed out."

Ann suggested deep-ening the base color, adding some red tones and maintaining the blond highlights. Visibly excited, Pamela agreed to the plan.

The Process:

Starting by putting hair swatches next to Pamela's skin, Ann chose a rich shade of red to give the hair color dimension and depth. With care and precision, she applied the base color and then added the highlights. When the process was complete, she set about to give the hair some sexy swing. Taking a couple of inches off the length, she added more layers and a slight bang. After blowing the hair dry, using a slicing technique, she took some weight off the bottom for more movement. To smooth wispy ends and add shine, Ann applied AG Varnish and gave Pamela a bottle to take home.

Using the TIGI BedheadT collection, Dawn's challenge was to give Pamela a simple makeup routine, requiring a minimum number of products, to achieve a natural look. She explained that Pamela's makeup would need to be adjusted to enhance her features and complement her fiery hair. "She'll need to go more toward the oranges, golds and browns, which just suits her because she has the most gorgeous green/hazel eyes. This color is so perfect for her!"

To even out Pamela's skin tone without looking heavily made-up, Dawn mixed foundation with a little moisturizer, giving a youthful, luminous effect. Next, she applied a beautiful champagne-color eye shadow, making her eyes pop but giving her a warm and natural look.
Using a lip liner brush, which she prefers for most of her blending techniques, she applied brown eye shadow over Pamela's dark brows to soften them. She lined her eyes in brown-again, using the lip liner brush to smudge it for a soft, smoky effect. "So far, I've only used two colors," she said, "the champagne and the brown." Finishing with mascara, a bronze blush and a coppery lip color called "Gossip," the whole makeup routine took about five minutes.

The result:

Her husband's reaction: With a shot of confidence, Pamela left the salon, anxious to get her husband's reaction. His exact words: "Oh, Babe, I like it. I really like it. You know what? It looks really hot!"
Bingo! The magic word! Pamela got just what she wanted.

Pamela's take: "I think what made it really work was the whole makeup and the hair thing together."

Other reactions: One of Pamela's friends said, "Wow, yeah, that's really different. I like it a lot." (Now she's dying to be the next Pink makeover candidate!)

Even strangers took note. According to Pamela, a girl whom she does not know asked her where she got her hair cut.

Maintenance should be fairly simple. Pamela was advised not to wash her hair for a couple of days to let the new color set. "She'll need her color touched up about every five to six weeks," said Ann, "but she won't need this much work every time. The color will be addressed as needed."
Loving her new look, Pamela has already scheduled a follow-up appointment.
