Kim Schuessler

About the Artist

Kim Schuessler is a mixed media figurative artist who has recently gained wide success and recognition in the greater Atlanta area. Her paintings are colorful and lighthearted, with deep and personal themes and lessons to teach. Her inspiration comes from the emotion of relationships and through the illustration of lifelong lessons. "Many times my titles suggest the life lesson I am painting. For example, 'Find Your Support System' is a painting that illustrates two couples dancing. The women are holding hands, suggesting the importance of friendship and the need for friends to be there during important times," Kim said.

Kim's work is also influenced by artists such as Klimt, Alice Neel, Modigliani, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenburg, Boterro and many others. "As a visual person, I am constantly looking at color, patterns and spatial relationships. All these impact my work," Kim said.

Kim grew up in Dalton, GA where, even as a child, her love and talent for both art and fashion were evident. She ended up fully committing herself to that passion as a senior in high school, and, from that year on, she pursued art at every opportunity. She studied abroad in France and Italy, attended Parsons School of Design and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia.

Immediately after completing her undergraduate studies, Kim went back to school to earn an Arts Education degree. Although she enjoyed teaching, her true desire was to have a full-time career as an artist. As she taught art at an elementary school, she simultaneously pursued her painting career by entering small shows. Once she was eventually accepted into several galleries in the southeast, she stopped teaching, started a family and started pursuing her art career full-time. "My greatest goal is staying focused. Life has many distractions, but I am trying to pursue my passion for art while also supporting my amazing family," said Kim. "These two goals keep me incredibly busy, which I love."

To date, Kim considers her greatest accomplishments to be the thrills of seeing her work displayed in places she would have never imaged seeing them. Some of these places include The First Ladies Congressional Luncheon, the Hank Aaron Museum, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and in magazines such as Pink and Better Homes and Garden.

Kim Schuessler's success is evident through her accomplishments and her passion, but mostly because of her grounded state of mind and the optimistic approach she takes in her work. "I want the world to know that I am about family, hard work, gratitude, commitment, determination and perseverance. I am about pursuing your passion, finding joy in everyday occurrences and finding love in those you cherish."
