Sundays- New Harmonies
Artworks will host this Sunday Concert Series, in conjunction with the Beaufort County Public Library. New Harmonies is a celebration of American Roots Music, and a traveling exhibit, created by the Smithsonian Institution, will be on display at the Beaufort Branch Library, 311 Scott Street through February 4. Sunday concerts will take place at 3 p.m. at Artworks, with the exception of the January 15th concert which will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Frissell House at Penn Center, St. Helena Island. Mondays- Shore Notes

January 1st- Publix Bluffton New Year's Day Polar Bear 5K

This fifth annual event takes place at 10 a.m., beginning and ending at Berkeley Place. A percentage of the proceeds from the event will benefit Palmetto Animal League and Bluffton Fins Swim Team. For more info: 843-757-8520, www.bearfootsports.com

January 5th- Artworks January Workshops
Thursdays, January 5th-February 9th: Clay workshops from 10 a.m.-noon and Wheelthrown from 1:15-3:15 p.m. or 6-8 p.m. Cost is $125 plus $25 per 25 lbs. of clay. Wednesdays beginning January 11th: Beginning Photography. Cost is $200. Tuesdays beginning January 24-February 28th from 6-8 p.m.: Basketry Combinations and Innovations. Cost is $80. January 7th- Tate/Coursen Memorial Walk/Run
This event, to benefit CODA, takes place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Beaufort Academy, 240 Sam's Point Road, Lady's Island. Participants can walk or run ten laps (5K) to commemorate each year since officers Tate and Coursen's deaths in 2002. Cost is $20 prior to the event or $25 on event day. January 11th- League of Women Voters

January 11th- Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre

January 13th- HHI Ski Club Social

January 14th- AAUW Meeting

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will meet at 10 a.m. at the Seabrook House, 300 Woodhaven Drive, HHI.  Pat Cano, co-chair of the cookbook project for the Sun City Avant Gardeners Club, will speak on the cultivation and therapeutic uses of herbs. For more info: 843-341-6638


January 17th- Heritage Library Winter Lectures

This four-part series takes place January 17th, 24th, 27th and 31st from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Heritage Library, 852 William Hilton Pkwy. January 17th- Business Expo

This Hilton Head Island Chamber of Commerce event, takes place at the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort and Spa, and is the largest business-building and networking event in the Lowcountry. For more info: 843-785-3673, hiltonheadchamber.org


January 18th- Heritage Library Class Season

January's two-session program, "Starting Family Research," takes place January 18th and 25th from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Heritage Library, 852 William Hilton Pkwy. Cost for non-members is $45, and $40 for members. For more info: 843-686-6560, www.heritagelib.org


January 19th- PQG Monthly Meeting

The Palmetto Quilt Guild will hold its monthly meeting at Christ Lutheran Church, 829 Wm. Hilton Pkwy, Hilton Head Island. Quilt artist and 2011 Teacher of the Year, Lyric Kinard, will present "Elements of Art", beginning at 1 p.m. $5 visitor fee. For more info: 843-785-3705


January 21st- Chamber Restaurant Week

This event takes place January 21st-28th and includes more than 50 member restaurants that will offer special prix-fixe, multi-course menus for Lowcountry diners. For more info: hiltonheadchamber.org


January 22nd- CJA Jazz Rent Party

The Coastal Jazz Association will pay tribute to the Telfair Jazz Society in an event that takes place at the Savannah Westin Resort, beginning at 5 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public, but it is recommended that attendees offer a donation to go toward the Savannah Jazz Festival. January 22nd- VIM Soup Challenge

This annual Volunteers in Medicine Hilton Head Island (VIM) event takes place from 12-3 p.m. at the Westin Resort, HHI and features 20-30 of the area's best chefs. The $15 ticket includes all the soup you can eat and the chance to cast a vote for the "People's Choice" soup award. January 24th- Hammering, Printing & Adventuring

This after school program begins January 24th and runs through March 6th from 4-5:30 p.m. at Artworks, 2127 Boundary Street in Beaufort Town Center. Cost is $50 per seven-week class, and class ages range from 6-16. For more info: 843-379-2787, www.ArtWorksInBeaufort.org


January 25th- Chamber Young Professionals Group

January 25th- Endangered Species Trade Lecture

January 27th- Uncork the Wine & Food Festival

January 28th- Hilton Head Island Snow Day

January 28th- Mardi Gras on Paris Avenue

The annual Mardi Gras Take Over gala will take place from 7-11 p.m. at The Shed on Paris Avenue in Old Village Port Royal. January 28th- Rotary Club of Bluffton Oyster Roast

January 28th- What the Heck Is This?

February 7th- Lend Me a Tenor

February 23rd- Hospice and Hearts
This red carpet affair, girl's night out will benefit Hospice Care of the Lowcountry. The event takes place from 6:30-9 p.m. at Windows on the Waterway, Hilton Head Plantation. The cost is $45 and includes food, wine, and prize drawing. $100 Star Sponsor includes food, wine, prize drawing and your loved one's name on a Walk of Fame Star.
