About the Artist

Roz's love for painting has been with her since she was a child, which is  still evident in the colors, humor, and movement she weaves through her pieces. "Professional, driven and prolific" are words she uses to describe her work ethic. Roz is "happily and chronically obsessed," when it comes to painting! A mother of three "mostly wonderful" children and a wife, Roz feels that her colorful movement-filled work is a fabulous reflection of her chaotic and fun-filled life!

Rosilyn Young, or Roz, has been painting professionally for more than 20 years. Her work is like a stroll through a fanciful dream, teeming with bold and vibrant colors, bringing new life and playfulness to animals and objects that may otherwise be overlooked. She likes to call her art "whimsical fine art" to distinguish it from serious subjects. Roz was a "Yankee" originally, until she moved to Texas in the '90s. At one point, she and her children spent time on a ranch, where her love for painting humble farm animals came about. She saw them as "giant, messy, amusing pets," while ranch owners took a more somber approach to the livestock.

Roz has sold her work to many galleries, shops, designers, celebrities, authors, politicians and art lovers from all over the world. Many of her paintings are commissioned by clients, who have specific subjects and sizes in mind. She also uses photo references of her own, taken over the years, as well as hundreds of references that she has received from clients for custom works. She takes subjects and, with flicks of her oil paint coated "wand," takes the viewer on an imaginative journey of whimsy.

"There have been so many wonderful emails and letters from collectors. There are a couple that stand out, though, that still make me weep. One was a woman who bought a Leap Series painting because it reminded her of her fight with breast cancer (and overcoming it).  Another was a mother who commissioned a swing of her daughter (in her early 20s) who had died a couple years earlier. She told me that within their house, everyone was so understandably sad-that the daughter would not have wanted that. She sent me photos of this beautiful young woman swinging on a tire swing and I made a painting out of it.all movement and light. Her mother wrote me that it was just the thing to bring the light and spirit back into their home-to remember her as the fun-loving woman she had been. I paint whimsical paintings. I never expect my day to be that serious. When I realize that the light nature of this work is exactly what does move people, I feel amazingly honored."
