Your Heart and National Spirit
The Hilton Head Choral Society (HHCS) will be opening their new season of song 100-plus voices strong. A large percentage of those singers are women who have been trailblazers in their own right. Comprising over 60 percent of the chorus and 80 percent of the choral society board, these women have served as leaders of major corporations and innovators in their communities and hail from many states across the U.S. On September 9, this diverse group of women will help lead the Hilton Head Choral Society in a concert that focuses on what makes us ALL strong—our great nation.
“This Land I Love” is the theme of this year’s Pops concert and it will make you feel good again about being an American and will lift your spirit and exemplify the qualities that make this the greatest nation on Earth. In their 41st season, the HHCS will be united in performing songs that will resonate with all Americans—classics like “What a Wonderful World,” and Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land,” and many more.
Tim Reynolds, now in his 17th season as Artistic Director, reminds us that this emotional and inspirational catalogue of Americana is exactly what we all crave to hear these days. “It’s very important, especially in this rancorous election year, that we remind ourselves of the greatness of our country and her people. The music is reminiscent of our past and born from our common struggles and triumphs. Reynolds concludes by saying, “We’ll celebrate our shared American spirit by reminding ourselves, through song, that we have more in common than not. We’ll celebrate the joy of being in this land that we love!” Joining the chorus for this special concert will be student players from the Savannah Arts Academy playing side-by-side in the orchestra with a professional, giving them the unique opportunity to work with a chorus the size and caliber of the Choral Society.
