Joanne Voulelis

Pink's Monthly Makeover

Meet Joanne:

When Joanne Voulelis showed up at Hair Designers in the Village at Wexford, I immediately knew that receiving a makeover from Pink Magazine wasn't her normal adventure. She had an anxious excitement about her that showed me she was ready for something new, but afraid to take that first step. After speaking with her for a few minutes, the real source behind her desire for a transformation came out: "My daughter, Allison, constantly tells me I need a change, but I'm clueless to makeup and hair. The only makeup I have is stuff that she picked out for me. To top it off, I have a big, black tie wedding to go to in New York at the end of the month, and I need to look classy, so I just decided it was time for change."

The Hair:

Lucky for Joanne, Hair Designers at the Village of Wexford has been one of the premier hair salons on Hilton Head for 30 years. This salon boasts some of the best and most knowledgeable professionals in the business. Joanne immediately trusted stylist Erika Warren to give her a sophisticated new look that would work for her. Erika's first suggestion was to take Joanne away from the one-dimensional, brassy hair color to a richer, multi-dimensional look. She combined chocolate tones with light brown, honey tones to create a color that shined in the light and brought out Joanne's stunning facial features.

In a tag-team effort, stylist Rachel Love took over to give Joanne a new cut to accentuate the color, as well as Joanne's features. She removed a lot of the weight from the hair by stacking the back and creating a softer edge along the bottom so it would lie nicely. As Rachel dried Joanne's fine hair with a round brush to give it more body, she gave her a styling lesson for everyday wear, as well as some fabulous options for the wedding. Rachel's tips: blow dry your hair up and back to help keep it out of your face; backcomb to add extra "oomph" to the style; and the most important key to preserving color is to use a good color-conserve shampoo and conditioner. To help Joanne keep her color longer, the staff at Hair Designers gave her bottles of Aveda Color Conserve Shampoo and Conditioner along with Aveda Volumizing Tonic Styling Product.

Hair products used:
Tressa and Wella Permanent Hair Color, Aveda Color Conserve Shampoo and Conditioner, It's a 10 Leave-in Conditioner and Aveda Volumizer.

The Makeup:
Now that Joanne had a fabulous new hair color and style, she headed over to Makeup Artist Sandy Mullins to receive expert advice on makeup application. Sandy began with a tinted moisturizer with SPF 15 to help block Joanne's face from the intense summer sun. From there, she applied a mixture of earth tone colors on her eyes with brighter peaches and corals on her lips and cheeks to create a fresh summery look! Joanne looked like a brand new woman -very chic!

Aveda makeup products used: Tinted moisturizer in Sweet Tea, powder foundation in Honey, brow shadow from the Gobi Sands Trio, eye shadows from the Golden Jasper Trio, mascara in Black Forest, blush in Peach Lights, lip liner in Spiced Plum, lip gloss in Mango Juice.

The New Look:
Joanne emerged from Hair Designers with a new look and attitude to go along with it. She threw on a bold Lily Pulitzer top and necklace from SM Bradford and stepped confidently towards her new adventure. Exuding style, there is no doubt that the new, very attractive Joanne will turn heads in New York. Go get 'em girl!
