With a lifelong creative spirit and inner self-drive, artist Sheri Line took her early artistic queues from her mother and grandmother, both artists themselves. They lovingly encouraged her toward her own artistic journey. Post four children and an international executive career, Sheri now enjoys being a full-time artist. Whether in her home studio on Hilton Head Island or painting plein air, Sheri is living her best art-filled life by the sea.

Her creations bring bright colors to life with movement and energy, drawing viewers into stories she loves to share. “I love to paint! I don’t know how better to explain it to you than just that: I simply LOVE to paint! Couple that with the saying, ‘paint where you live’…so lucky me! Breathtaking Lowcountry skies, crashing waves, endless green, and the abundant nature within our surroundings inspire me daily. I paint for my happiness. I hope my sometimes larger than life and almost always, brightly-colored paintings bring joy and happiness to you, too,” Sheri exclaimed!

Known for her big, oversized artwork, we asked Sheri about the components of her creative process. “My passion is to paint large, and the bigger the better. To ensure I am capturing the contrast of shadows and light at its best, to have the right scale, perspective, the correct values and composition, I will often do a mini-series on small canvases or paper. This allows me to experiment with light, colors, angles, and the like before committing to a large canvas.”
The light and colors of “Big Pink Hat” from Sheri’s art series, Ladies Who Beach, is our cover piece for this month’s issue, and we think it’s perfect as a kickoff to summer! Playful and colorful with a pinch of independence, freedom, and sass, “Big Pink Hat” joyfully conveys a perfect, relaxing, mindful seaside afternoon.

And did we mention Sheri is a local? She is a member of the Art League of Hilton Head, Hilton Head Plantation Art Association, the Texas Visual Arts Association, and the Southwest Watercolor Society. Sheri is also vice-president and board member for the Art League of HHI, as well as an exhibiting artist. We're excited to bring her big, bold and vivacious art to this month's cover!
