Meet Jackie: Jackie Longo has a passion and zeal for life that is above and beyond. Her enthusiasm is as fresh and exciting as it is contagious. Originally from Ohio, Jackie lived in Seattle, Wash., with her then-husband, but, thanks to a friend, she finally landed in Shipyard Plantation on Hilton Head Island. Her travels were far from over. Today, Jackie only lives on the island six months out of the year, then moves to her own villa in a little town right outside of Pisa, Italy, for the remaining summer months.
Although Jackie is retired, she remains incredibly busy. Her activities include leading the Shipyard ladies' group and golf league, doing charity work for The Church Mouse and volunteering for Christ Lutheran Church.
“I think it’s important to be diversified. I also think it keeps me young. I’m a firm believer that if you don’t act old, you don’t feel old. And I definitely don’t act old,” Jackie said.
The Fresh Approach:Our first stop of the day was at Bluffton Center for Dentistry for a Zoom Whitening Treatment. Alina Porcelli and her staff had the perfect treatment to get Jackie’s makeover kick-started with a brighter, whiter smile. We were amazed at the brilliant transformation of Jackie’s smile simply by whitening her teeth, and all in an hour’s time.
Then, we went to The Heavenly Spa by Westin for hair and makeup. Stylist Melissa Warren had the perfect cut and color in mind for Jackie’s dirty blonde, with several hints of grey, mane. While her lighter hair color was pretty, its style had lost its luster. Melissa said giving Jackie’s hair depth by going with an all-over color of deep brown with a hint of red would not only add richness, but more importantly, it would create a dramatic contrast with her crystal-blue eyes. With Jackie’s whole-hearted consent and trust, Melissa got to work on transforming Jackie from boring blonde to bouncy brunette.
After Jackie’s color set, Melissa began a new cut, to match Jackie’s fresh color. Melissa said what she envisioned for the cut was to maintain the integrity of Jackie’s hair by taking most of the length off the back, giving her a few pointed layers along the sides and leaving her bangs sideswept to keep the emphasis on her lovely eyes. With the cut and color done, all that was left to do was a piece-perfecting blow-out and Jackie was ready for Terra and the makeup chair.
Terra Orndorff is the Director of The Heavenly Spa and also a mastermind of cosmetics. She sat Jackie down in front of an intimidating array of Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup, which Terra said was actually created and launched simultaneously with the more popular Bare Minerals. Jane Iredale differentiates itself by being specifically for problematic and sensitive skin, and is perfect for people with radical skin issues, because it is completely mineral based and lays lightly on the skin.
Terra began with the CC cream, which she explained was a moderate coverage that manages to hide your imperfections, while not completely making you feel like you have heavy foundation on. She followed with a mineral blush and used concealer under Jackie’s eyes as well as using it as a contouring highlighter. Terra’s trick for making Jackie’s eyes pop even more was to apply a white liner on the inner rim of her lower lid and follow with a deep espresso brown-almost-black along the lash line of the lower and upper eyelids. A little mascara, pop of lipstick and the savvy, new Jackie was almost complete!
Clothes Line:Sharon and the ladies of Worth New York knew the perfect dress to add to Jackie’s new look. Although Jackie confessed she didn’t own a single thing green, we went with it anyway and knew it was the perfect dress as soon as she slipped it on.
“I really usually go more toward reds. I would have never picked anything green. But that’s what this is all about,” she said.
Jackie’s open mind is just one of the things that makes people gravitate toward her engaging and passionate spirit. She is one of those people who you just can’t get enough of and instantly brightens your day with a little bit of Jackie-style sunshine.
