Welcome to The Lowcountry Lookbook, a new journal to fuel your passion for fashion and learn tips, tricks, and trends to keep you in style and looking good. This article will be your go-to for insight on what's happening in the fashion scene here in the Lowcountry, as well as sharing the buzz of the latest chic sensations. Diane von Furstenberg said, “Style is something each of us already has, all we need to do is find it.” And that is exactly what we're excited to do!
Fall fashion arrived in the Lowcountry right on time. Unfortunately, these stubborn summer temperatures don't reflect the wool, cashmere, and faux leather on our horizons. Each morning, I walk to my closet desperate to throw on a sweater, a pair of jeans, and fabulous boots. Since our temps are up and humidity is high, the battle of how to dress autumn-chic when it's sweltering puzzles even the trendiest fashion gods.
I, however, will not be deterred! And nor should you. Here's how to take basic pieces and pair them with fall accessories to make yourself feel very season appropriate. Time for a game plan: Let’s take a temperature conscious outfit and style it with my two favorite fall accessories…. BOOTS & BELTS.
One of my most favorite and timeless go-to pieces has to be the basic black maxi dress. A basic black maxi comes in a variety of styles: sleeveless, short sleeve, long sleeve, drop waist, cinched waist, pleated, a-line, side slit, no slit, the list goes on and on. The only requirement is that it makes you feel good! Grab your favorite and let's start from the ground up. Pairing any of our four fabulous boot picks with your preferred basic black maxi dress can take you into a fall fashion look without overheating. The snake skin black heel boot by Marella Accessori, pairs fabulously with side slit maxis, while the winter white pointed-toe, by Theo, provide just enough color and pop to make a to-the-floor hem interesting. Square-toe boots bring preppy buckles, while the leg warmer detail make tea-length super hip.
Another favorite styling hack: Before you head out for the day, throw a belt in your bag. This way, after work and before going to dinner, a belt can be added to elevate your outfit. You can even do the opposite and wear a belt to work and then shed it for a night out. Adding or subtracting just one element as small as a belt can really transform a look.
Bigger buckles and rich leathers boost even the most basic maxi, such as the large mixed-metal belt buckle and belt we chose (by Streets Ahead). Simply by adding a belt, you can quickly add a waist, give texture, or shine some sparkle in no time.
Our boots and belt picks showcase both fall and winter trends. Animal prints, embellishments, and mixed textures and metals are big for this new season. You don't have to wait for a big chill to show them off. The time is now to re-boot and belt it out!
