About the Cover Artist — Kandy Myny
by Lindsay Gifford
Pink Magazine is excited to bring first-time cover artist, Kandy Myny’s whimsical artwork to our readers to kick off 2026. A self-taught, mixed media artist from Michigan, Kandy loves to bring her visions to life through vibrant colors and playful designs invoking a joyful feeling to those who view it.
As a child, Kandy enjoyed art as a hobby and took many classes along her art journey. When she became a stay-at-home mom to her two beautiful children, she started painting murals in children’s rooms, enabling her to raise her kids while working a flexible schedule. From there, her art world bloomed as she began to research mixed-media art focusing on creating paintings and collages, incorporating scraps and recycled materials which made each piece unique. In 2008, her business “Bit O’ Whimsey”—named for its playful nature and whimsical style—was born and she began exhibiting at shows with her husband’s help, selling giftable art that is now collected in homes across the country and world-wide.
Kandy’s love of gardening and the outdoors brings her endless opportunities to drawinspiration from landscapes that surround her. “Nature is important in my artwork because it provides endless inspiration, emotional depth, and a universal connection that speaks to viewers. It enriches creativity by offering beauty, symbolism, and a reminder of our place in the world,” said Kandy.
Her artistic mediums are varied, ranging from paper and paint to fabric, ink, found objects and recycled materials. Each piece she creates is an exploration of color, texture, and composition, with strong emphasis on layering and depth.
This month’s cover piece, Be Still portrays a girl in prayer, embodying our search for inner peace. The artwork invites viewers into a moment of reflection, where silence becomes a source of resilience and renewal. Its muted palette and gentle composition are designed to evoke calm and contemplation. “Through Be Still, I emphasized an intentional pause to discover clarity of quieting the noise around us to hear what lies within,” Kandy explained. The piece is comprised of torn papers, fabric and lace, paint, and ink.
She takes great pride in creating a visual narrative that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also emotionally uplifting. Whether it is a vibrant, colorful painting or an intricate collage, each of her works has a unique character and personality. Kandy believes that by taking a brave step to let go of your fears, you too can create a life you love.
