About the Cover Artist — Jill Haney Neal

Artist0323 2Ladies, raise your wine glasses in salute to Jill Haney Neal, our August issue Cover Artist who’s whimsical, bodacious babes have graced a variety of artworks including paintings, wine labels, coffee mugs and Pink’s October 2016 and June 2020 magazine covers: Welcome back, Jill!

Jill believes women were created in God’s image with a universal spirit and are equally loved regardless of size, ethnicity, or background. “There is an edginess to my art and from what I’ve been told, I’m still breaking barriers. When you get women together, they are funny and sexy, it’s just part of our essence.”

“I have two lives,” Jill explained, “I have my fine art life—more impressionistic, pen and ink wildlife and horses, but what people know me for is my women—life from a women’s point of view. I always want it to be empowering. I want it to have mixed races, all nationalities and women in all different shapes because God loves us all.”

Jill, who uses mostly watercolors and acrylics on watercolor paper, proclaimed “You just have to get a little crazy with watercolor art! I take things from my life and turn them into art. Women get it, and most men don’t unless they are in touch with their feminine side.”

Explaining her inspiration for the August issue cover ”Flower Girl”, Jill said, “This artwork, is for my Flower girls—the Baby Boomers and 70s girls—let the good times roll....sans helmet, free flowing, bare feet and fancy free.  Celebrate the age and gray hair!”

Jill is finally painting again after some time off when her husband passed away unexpectedly in November . We’re lucky we caught up with her when we did as Jill be going up to her off-the-grid cabin in the San Juan islands and focus on her painting in August. She is looking forward to spending more amongst the beautiful and peaceful waterfront. She enjoys a multitude of inspiration and wildlife with seals, orcas, deer, shorebirds, dolphins—all which can be seen from her deck. And, she even has an outhouse!

What’s next for Jill? She’s focusing a lot on her wine labels. “My newest is a mermaid leaping out of the water drinking wine, which complements her other labels: ‘Menopause Merlot’ from Biner Vineyards, ‘Vivacious Vicky’ from Kiona, and Westport Winery’s ‘Duckleberry Grunt’ and ‘Beauty from Splashes’.”said Jill. She has also recently licensed her images with DesignHQ, who prints my art onto wood, which can hang inside or outside .

“I’m looking forward to and hoping for a new and wonderful year.  Right now I’m moving in a new direction with my life, and art has been my lifeline” said Jill.

Jill’s artwork is available in 3 retail locations: Black Butte Ranch in Sisters, Oregon, Flying Dutchman Winery in Otter Rock, Oregon and The Scott Collection in La Conner, Washington.
