About the Cover Artist — Brittany Fuson
byMeredith Deal
With a bright personality and go-getter attitude, our featured artist, Nashville, Tennessee native, Brittany Fuson, has captured the holiday spirit for Pink’s holiday cover artwork!
Brittany is an early-to-bed, early-to-rise, collector of coffee table books who prefers sweet over salty, and a night-in, over a night-out. But she has also wanted to be an adventurous jetsetter to overcome her fear of flying. "I started taking my illustrations with me and created a fun travel experience through the #whereintheworldisBFP hashtag. From Hong Kong to Italy, follow along to see where I'm heading next."
Organized to a fault, our energetic artist spent her early years dreaming of becoming a wedding dress designer or makeup artist. She spent a summer in New York City, splitting time between two internships in the fashion industry. It wasn't until after she graduated from the University of Alabama that she decided to pursue design in her own way... on paper. “Drawing, creating, and originality is something my parents always championed when I was growing up,” Brittany explained. She put her illustration skills to work and created her first ready-to-write collection in the fall of 2009.
Now as a full-time artist and illustrator for 15 years, she always has a pencil or marker in hand and is a proud brand-loyal customer to her medium, markers, and colored pencils. “I am a Prismacolor girl through and through. I use double-ended markers and colored pencils for each and every illustration.
Pink’s cover art, “PJs” was inspired by Christmas tradition. “This illustration is one of my favorite Christmas designs because it's a play on the somewhat universal tradition of matching Christmas pajamas within families, friends, and groups, but with a little flair,” reminisced Brittany. And, Pink’s cover isn’t its only claim to fame, it was also selected as the "Cover Girls" artwork for a 2021 Nashville show benefiting the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center—a fabulous charitable shopping event for a great cause.
Christmas has always been a favorite time of the year for Brittany, “It is something I inherited from my mom. She always made the holidays such a special time. We love to do all festive Christmas things and find new traditions each year.”
Brittany isn’t afraid to put herself out there, and it’s paid off: "One day, I went out on a limb and sent Giuliana Rancic a print of her and her glam squad. I was floored when I saw that print in the Halloween episode of ‘E! News’!” The random gift sparked a relationship with Giuliana and her team at Home Shopping Network. “We collaborated on three different collections sold exclusively on HSN. I even made a guest appearance on the show in December 2016, truly a whirlwind, fun experience!" Brittany is also an avid Pinterest user with wide-open trending eyes. “I find myself more inspired by street style versus high fashion magazines and runways, though those are both something I'm still paying attention to.”
