Publisher“No matter what people tell you, words
and ideas can change the world.”
— F. Scott Fitzgerald —

I’m an idea person. What that means is new things pop in my head all the time, especially while driving or in the shower. The four dreaded words my employees hate to hear come out of my mouth are, “I have an idea.” They know that means I will roll my idea out like a plush, crimson carpet awaiting George Clooney, get all excited, tell them why I believe it can be done and basically leave them to make it happen. I am not a good coordinator; I find it overwhelming.

I believe it takes different kinds of genius to make something great. My genius is in creative ideas and surrounding myself with good people who can help me make those ideas come to life. Everyone on my staff has their own genius, as well. I like to empower their genius to show up at work and play!

One of the most rewarding things about the magazine industry (and there aren’t many because you work yourself to death) is being able to sit in a creative meeting, spew out ideas and 20 business days later, see those ideas nestled between the covers of the magazine. It’s somewhat of a rush—no doubt. Not many people get to dream and then literally hold those dreams in their hands within mere days.

That’s what we do at Pink Magazine. We dream hard and we work hard. Every person who works here has the desire to make a difference in the lives of women; it’s a requirement. If we don’t have the heart for our mission—empower, inform, encourage and evoke thought—you would be the first to know. How? Our pages would no longer caress your spirit, tickle your funny bone, or harness your heart.

I love Pink Magazine. I would be a fool if I didn’t. Who would ever put this much work into anything and not love it? I love it for many reasons that I can spout off the top of my head. However, it’s not until I get to one reason in particular that my voice cracks, my eyes tear and my heart aches. The reason: I truly long for women: I long for their happiness, their sense of self-worth, their strength, confidence, well-being and verve for life. I long for women to support each other and I long for women to quit mistreating other women. It is time.

This month we are celebrating another wonderful milestone—this is our 150th issue! I never planned for a seed in my head to sprout, grow, and blossom into something so wonderful. I am honored and humbled every time someone tells me she or he loves the magazine. It’s hard to think of a greater honor than receiving affirmation that my life’s work affects others in a positive way. Truly, there is no greater award.

I appreciate everyone who helps sustain Pink, including our advertisers, readers, Pink Partini goers, our online readers and friends. Mostly, though, I appreciate my staff. They make it a joy to come to work, make me a better person, make our customers happy and make the magazine a work of art every month both graphically and editorially. Their dedication to me and to you, through the pages of this magazine, is an extraordinary treasure.

As you read Pink each month, we hope you can feel how much we care about you. Every article we put in here is carefully thought out with you in mind. And, if it looks easy and makes you feel good, then we’ve done our job!

I have spent 13 years building this product and I am proud of it. It is a product for ALL women. My mission now is to also build a great company. I love the growth I have been able to experience on this journey, and the growth I’ve seen in many of you. Thank you so much for allowing us into your home and heart. I promise I will keep the ideas flowing, and even though they are rolling their eyes, my staff loves seeing them through—most of them, anyway. That’s why I love them.

I dedicate this 150th issue to them—my staff—some of the absolute best people I know. I adore and respect each and every one of you. From the bottom of my heart…you are my tribe. We are a team. We are PINK!
