ABOUT OUR COVER ARTIST:
Rarely do we feature a cover artist more than once, however, we are delighted to welcome Cassandra M. Gillens back for a third time. Cassandra is a self-taught artist currently residing and working in Beaufort. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, her creativity and artistry was evident from a young child. Her earliest experiences of drawing with colored chalks remained with her and influenced her work when she began to paint pictures depicting her early childhood years in South Carolina. Today, these same pictures have made Cassandra Gillens a well-known artist throughout America.
Cassandra’s fondest memories of her visits to South Carolina inspired her to paint visions of the Low Country’s comforting southern culture. She dreamed of one day returning to the place that won her heart and spirit, and upon her return, became closely connected with her people and the culture she so loved. Her paintings reveal that love with vivid colors of the southern seasons and images of good-ol’ southern living.
With ever-growing popularity, her work is popping on the scene in more and more places. For instance, several of Cassandra’s works are a part of the permanent collection “Art for Healing” at MUSC Ashley River Tower Hospital in Charleston, SC. Also in Charleston, her participation in the Piccolo Spoleto Art Exhibit resulted in an impressive sell out. Additionally, she has been featured in dozens of newspapers and magazines including Southern Living. In fact, look for a piece on her in this month’s issue.
As if that’s not enough, Cassandra won the accolades of United Airlines and has been featured in their flight magazine. By the way, don’t be surprised when you catch glimpses of her work in the just released (Sept. 26) Nicholas Sparks’ movie “Nights In Rodanthe,” and the Lifetime television series “Army Wives."
To find out more about Cassandra Gillens, or to view a listing of galleries where her work and merchandise line are represented, log on to www.cassandragillens.com. or call 843.592.0944. (We’ve seen her work at Camellia Art, HHI and De Gullah Creations, HHI)
